Plot description:

In a boarding school in rural Yunnan, China, a group of middle school
students had dropped out but were persuaded to return to the classroom
by their teachers. This was an important initiative of the state’s
"education poverty alleviation" scheme. While these students remained
confined within the campus, their hearts had long leaped out of the
school wall. THE WALL follows three students between 2019 and 2020 as
they went through the final year of their basic education. The film
raises the question of what kind of future awaits those who are deemed
as the ‘black sheep’ in a highly meritocratic and competitive education
system in contemporary China.
