Curriuculum Vitae

Philipp Schröder studierte Ethnologie und Politikwissenschaften an der Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen, der Freien Universität Berlin und der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Zwischen 2006 und 2011 war er Mitglied der Abteilung “Integration und Konflikt” am Max-Planck-Institut für ethnologische Forschung in Halle/Saale. Von 2012 bis 2017 war er Postdoc am Institut für Asien- und Afrikawissenschaften der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und vertrat dort von 2016 bis 2017 die Professur “Islam in den Gesellschaften Asiens und Afrikas”. Seit Oktober 2017 ist Philipp Schröder wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Ethnologie der Universität Freiburg und dort Koordinator des BA-Programms.

Philipp Schröder hat an der American University of Central Asia (Kirgistan), der Universität Hamburg, der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg gelehrt sowie im Rahmen verschiedener Sommerschulen, die vom Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst (DAAD) gefördert wurden. Er ist assoziierter Wissenschaftler am Institut für Sozialanthropologie und Empirische Kulturwissenschaft (ISEK) der Universität Zürich und assoziiertes Mitglied des Halle-Zürich Zentrums für ethnologische Studien zu Zentralasien (CASCA). Außerdem ist er “research affiliate” beim International Security and Development Center (ISDC, Berlin) und Gastdozent an der OSCE-Academy (Bischkek, Kirgistan).

Philipp Schröder ist als Berater für verschiedene Projekte der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit in Zentralasien tätig, u.a. für das Auswärtige Amt, die Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), die Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, die Weltbank, UN Women, UNICEF, die University of Central Asia (UCA) und das 'The Hague Institute for Global Justice'. Er ist auch ein “Country of Origin Information (COI) expert” für das ‘Rights in Exile Programme’.

Die Forschungsinteressen von Philipp Schröder umfassen insbesondere Identität, Integration und Konflikt; translokale Mobilitäten und Unternehmertum; urbane Räume, Jugend(kulturen) und Maskulinität. Seine Hauptforschungsgebiete sind Zentralasien und Eurasien (insbesondere Kirgistan, Russland und China).
